Sindh Additional Advocate General on Friday sought time before the Sindh High Court to seek instructions from the provincial government regarding detention of union leader of Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) under Maintenance of Public Order (MPO). Haji Khan Bhatti, along with other PTCL union office-bearers, agitating against sell of 26 percent stake of state-owned phone company with management control, was arrested and later detained by the government on June 14 under MPO for 30 days.
The court was told by petitioner's counsel AK Memon that except Haji Khan Bhatti, all detained union leaders and workers were released by the government and prayed the court to release the detainee, who was also produced before court.
Additional Advocate General Ahmed Pirzada, who appeared on the court notice submitted that he had no any instruction in this regard and sought time.
The SHC division bench comprising Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmany and Justice Amir Hani Muslim granting time fixed June 27, 2005 for the next hearing.
Meanwhile, the same court disposed of petition against detention of another PTCL union leader Adnan Ahmed Siddiqui as the court was told by petitioner's counsel that detainee has been released.
