The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is likely to approve a Technical Assistance (TA) of $0.45 million for the preparation of "north-west Frontier Province Devolved Social Services Programme" aimed at making the services delivery more effective, equitable and sustainable, it is learnt. Informed source told Business Recorder here on Friday that through this proposed TA, the Bank would help and assist the NWFP government in preparing programmes of reforms to make devolved social services delivery as per felt-need of the community.
According to the source, expected beneficiaries at grassroots level would have better access to education, health services, water supply and sanitation. It would contribute to the efforts being made for reducing incidence of poverty among the rural population by raising their standard of living, they added.
The ADB assistance would help in designing mechanism for devolved social services that will support local governments and communities in making these services more effective through regular monitoring and evaluation, the sources said.
There was also a plan to programme loan to establish these support mechanisms and related reforms agenda which would help in developing a set of policies to be supported from loan proceeds, and plan technical support to improve social services based on local needs. The executing agency would be the Planning & Development Department of the NWFP.
