The Agriculture Department will launch a special campaign from June 25-July 5 to destroy the bolls left over on cotton sticks, and save the current cotton crop from the attack of pink boll-worm. Secretary Agriculture Punjab, Fayyaz Bashir has directed the Extension Wing of the department to immediately burn and destroy the left over bolls in cotton fields across the province to save 20 percent production loss caused by pests, said a release issued here.
The measure will not only protect the crop from infestation but will also help achieve the production target of 11.65 million cotton bales fixed for the year 2005-06.
The Secretary has advised farmers to co-operate with the Extension staff to save their crop and make the campaign a success.
