An e-mail sent to me read, "Speaking on a point of order, Senator Amanullah Kanrani, told the house how a lady doctor, Dr Raheela, was physically abused by men in brown uniform at a toll plaza. Senator Kanrani said the men were given uniforms and weapons to protect the citizens but they were abusing citizens as they had torn the clothes of the lady doctor and struck her with the butts of their guns.
He said the lady doctor was stopped at a toll plaza after she was going back to Sargodha from Lahore. He said the police refused to register a case on the complaint of the victims as the culprits belonged to the military, and added that the culprits should be arrested and tried under the law of the land." If it is true, I am surprised that the Senator Kanrani has changed the 'Brown' uniformed men into Khaki-clad personnel.
All I know is that no military men are posted at the toll plazas. The persons responsible for security, law and order are either from the Motorway Police, the National Highways Police or the men hired by the National Highway Authority from the private Security Services Companies.
The only military personnel are the FWO personnel and they too in the civvies sitting inside the toll cabins to release the toll ticket at the start of the journey and collect the money at the final destination.
I hope that the naming of the military by the Senator was a case of mistaken identity.
