All Pakistan Commercial Exporters Association (Apcea) and the Government of Thailand have agreed on an agreement for launching joint efforts to find new markets for gemstone industry and on exchange of delegations. The government of Thailand has also expressed willingness over provision of the latest machinery for Gem and Gemological Institute Peshawar and imparting of modern training to students studying here.
According to a press release of the Apcea, the agreement was reached during the visit of a Thai delegation, led by President Bangkok Thai Jems and Jewelry Traders Association, Chirakitti Tang, at the Gem and Gemological Institute Peshawar.
Apcea chief Muhammad Asif Khan welcomed the visiting guests. Other gem exporters present on the occasion were chairman Gemological Institute Mamoor Khan, Tariq Khan from Smeda, DG EPA Sujahuddin Siddique.
During the visit, the Thai delegation members also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Apcea for exchange of delegations, finding new markets for gemstone in Thailand and cooperation in mineral exploration in the NWFP, especially precious stones.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Apcea Asif Khan informed the delegation members that after establishment of Gem and Gemological Institute, the export of precious stones from the NWFP has shown a significant increase.
Until now, he continued, about 700 students have benefited from this institution and started their business in the province.
He also apprised the delegation members about opportunities for investment in gemstone sector in the province.
