Environmental and marine pollution is noticed tremendous increase in last few decades in Pakistan like other parts of world. Human beings themselves are major contributor to derogatory situation of environment beside other factors including industrial development, improper disposal of solid waste, chemicals etc.
Steps on war footing basis are badly needed to initiate lobbing for converting our all actions according to environment-friendly standards.
We should make efforts and do lobbying to get realized government and private sector to turn their activities into environmental friendly in order to save our lives, economy, agriculture etc. from damages caused by bad environment. If current trend was not changed, it will leave severe affects and irreparable loss to our environment.
National Forum for Environment & Health (NFEH) is working on awareness, education, training, research and development activities in the field of environment and health since 1999.
Formation of Environment Excellence Award by National Forum for Environment & Health (NFEH) is a pioneer work and a step forward to achieve this objective to save our environment by promoting environment friendly activities in industrial, agricultural and corporate sectors both running under government and private ownership. This award will help industries to present them as role models for other units, not fulfilling their responsibilities.
This award has become a yearly event, which was announced first time in 2004 on the eve of World Environment Day. Other important goals of the award include encouraging healthy competition among organizations to soar higher in Environment Safety Management and to recognize their efforts for the benefit of employees at workplace and society in general. Further, it was aimed to emphasize the duties, responsibilities, save the units and departments from accidents and damages by taking preventive and corrective measures in order to increase overall production.
Ultimate aim is to encourage, recognize and reward those companies, institutions, industrial units or individuals who are implementing environment management strategies for improvement in healthy environment in workplace.
Being a new idea, the criteria set for the award was weightage of company 's EMS, its frequency and intensity in community services, emissions, effluents and solid waste management, noise and toxicity control, companies certification for ISO-14000, HACCP and ISO-9000 and above all company's environment friendly policies, objectives, program and events.
