People residing in dilapidated buildings in different areas of the provincial metropolis have been directed to shift to safe places to avoid any untoward incident during the monsoon season. The town administrations under city district government Lahore (CDGL), including Data Ganj Bakhsh Town, Shalimar Town, and Ravi Town have issued the warning, a senior official of City District Government Lahore told APP here, on Monday.
He said owners and occupants of all such buildings would be held responsible for any human, financial or material loss suffered due to their negligence.
Lahore Cantonment Board and Walton Cantonment Board executive officers have also directed residents of dilapidated buildings to inform the cantonment officials about the risk to their buildings and of their own accord, because the board officials are not allowed to enter private premises to check the buildings without being asked.
The official said it was brought to the notice of the executive officer that some owners purposely avoided repair of their property -houses, shops, commercial buildings etc, so that unwanted occupants/tenants may vacate the premises.
In such cases, he observed both parties have been advised to contact the Cantonment rent controller and adopt the formal procedure instead of indulging in practises dangerous to life and property.
Walton Cantonment Board has also set up an emergency cell to deal with any untoward occurrence during the current heavy rains.
