Thai share prices closed 0.93 percent lower on Tuesday as overseas investors offloaded large market capitalisation stocks, dealers said. The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) composite index dropped 6.26 points to close at 663.52 and the blue chip SET 50 index fell 5.18 points to 463.96.
Losers outnumbered gainers 181 to 123 while 89 stocks were unchanged in quiet trading of 1.97 billion shares worth 14.2 billion baht (341.51 million dollars).
The Thai baht, in line with other regional currencies, extended its losses against the dollar as it closed onshore trading on Tuesday at 41.52-58 baht to one dollar compared to the previous day's close at 41.41-44.
"The index dropped for three consecutive trading days and today it's due to foreign investors offloading their blue chip stocks in the energy, property sectors," Phadeompop Songkroh, chief analyst at Bualuang Securities said.
Bangkok Bank lost 1.50 baht to 99.50, PTT Plc fell 4.00 to 216.00, and Thai Petrochemical Industry shed 0.20 to finish at 12.30.
