On the recommendations of Education Ministry, the government has approved a compensation package of Rs 1 million and a residential plot in Islamabad for the family of slain Principal of Dawood College of Engineering and Technology, Karachi.
Chaudhry Saleem who was appointed Principal Dawood College of Engineering and Technology Karachi May 12, 2001 to restore education and eliminate political interference and corruption was gunned down on March 25 2005 while returning home.
He has also been awarded Tamgh-e-Shujaat, medical cover along with full pension to his family and free education to his youngest daughter.
Education Minister, Javed Ashraf has taken his personal interest to get the compensation package approved by the Prime Minister. He vigorously pursued a summary he had moved in this connection.
The summary initiated by the ministry on assumption of his duties as Principal, showed high sense of responsibility.
He enforced strict administrative, academic and financial disciplines besides rooting out worst type of governance problems in the college.
Many absconding employees were sacked. Due to the initiatives taken by the late principal the college started producing good results.
"Dr Saleem was killed while serving the nation, therefore, his family deserves an appropriate and immediate financial compensation," concluded the summary.
The package allowed to the families of the government servants whose death takes place due to sectarian violence is given in the Finance Division's O. M No 29 (1) R97-422/2001 dated May 04, 2001, and applicable to only civil servant.
