The government and all flood related departments have managed the flood situation through comprehensive planning and co-ordinated efforts, Superintendent Engineer Federal Flood Commission (FFC) Ahmed Kamal said this while talking to PTV here on Saturday.
In the presence of early flood warning system and coordinated efforts by all concerned departments including provincial governments, Pakistan Army, federal flood commission and relief departments the situation has been handled effectively.
He appreciated the role of engineer-corps of Pakistan Army, which is carrying out excellent work in the flood-affected areas. He said the overall flood situation across the country was improving.
Ahmad Kamal said, there is need to evolve strict legislation to effectively handle the flood situation countrywide and stop river encroachment on a permanent basis. "Our management system has much improved since the super flood of 1992," he added.
Federal flood commission (FFC) through a comprehensive flood management planning has developed 'bund and spur system' across the country during the last 13 years.
About latest flood situation in the country, he said, presently there was a high flood situation at Guddu Barrage with 493,000 cusecs water flow, which will increase to 550,000 cusecs by midnight.
At present, water flow at Kalabagh and Chashma is 277,000 and 289,000 cusecs respectively, which was low flood and it is constantly falling.
At Sukkur Barrage, the water flow will be about 550,000 cusecs on Sunday or Monday he said, adding in this regard, irrigation and relief departments have completed comprehensive arrangements to control the emerging situation.
He said, huge bulk of water is passing from Qaderabad, which is in high flood adding it is manageable and there was no risk of spillover.
