The University of Health Sciences (UHS) Lahore, Board of Governors (BoGs), has approved the estimated budget of Rs 138 million for the financial year 2005-2006, showing a deficit of Rs 0.309 million, which would be met from the balance available with the university. Chairman Professor Mahmood Ahmad Chaudhry presided over the 9th meeting of the UHS BoGs, which approved the budget estimates here, on Thursday.
The UHS Vice Chancellor, Professor Malik Hussain Mubbashar, Chief Justice Sheikh Riaz Ahmad (Retd), Professor M Sultan Farooqi, Professor Zafar Iqbal Qureshi, Dr Dilawar Ali Khan, Ijaz Munir, Kamran Ali Afzal and Professor Dr Muhammad Zafar Iqbal also attended the meeting.
For the financial year 2005-2006, the UHS has allocated Rs 13 million for the conduct of examinations, Rs 11 million for the purchase of machinery, Rs 15 million for fellowship for the postgraduate students and Rs one million for research activities.
An amount of Rs 57 million has been earmarked for pay and allowances of the staff, Rs 0.3 million for merit scholarships, Rs one million for professional audit of all medical institutes in the province of Punjab, Rs 2 million for repairs and maintenance for buildings and structures.
The Board also approved the construction of a canteen in the campus on 2600 sq ft with an estimated cost of Rs 2.5 million.
The Board, while approving the budget, asked the treasurer of the university that the next budget should be consolidated for 2 to 3 years and a detailed work plan be submitted. The BoGs Chairman, Professor Mahmood Ahmad, apprised the participants about the university achievements during the last year.
The Board also extended the contract of the Director General Works of the university and re-designated him as an advisor.
The Board also extended the contract for next five years of those employees, who showed excellent performance during the past 2 years.
The LHS Board of Governors also sanctioned one-month salary for the employees of finance department as an honorarium.
