A Panama-flagged dry cargo vessel sank in the Black Sea north of Istanbul on Friday, and the ship's captain was missing while the other nine crew members were rescued, maritime officials said. The 83-metre long ship, Corona Z, sank off the coast of the town of Kilyos after issuing an appeal for help at 7:55 am (0455 GMT), a coastguard official said.
The ship, which was carrying 2,737 tonnes of scrap metal, was travelling between Kostence in Romania and the Turkish port of Ambarli, to the south of the Bosphorus strait. It was not clear why it had sunk.
