Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Sindh President Syed Qaim Ali Shah has expressed concern over statement of President General Pervez Musharraf on Kalabagh Dam.
Addressing a news conference here on Sunday, he said all parties of Sindh, both political and religious, and even social organisation were unanimously against the KBD and they had been protesting throughout Sindh and also held seminars and APC in Islamabad against the dam.
Qaim Ali Shah said that Musharraf himself had formed a technical committee on KBD, but did not wait for its report. He said that downstream Kotri flow of water would save the ecological life of the area and land from being eaten away by sea.
The PPPP Sindh chief said as the president of Anti-Kalabagh Action Committee, he has summoned the meeting of the committee on Friday to discuss the situation arising out of President's "uncalled for" statement on the KBD.
He said they were not against Punjab or the armed forces but against a few persons "who were imposing their dictatorial decisions on the country".
On local bodies' polls in Sindh, Qaim Ali Shah said feudal chiefs, backed by the government have turned some areas into no-go areas for opposition candidates.
He demanded to declare August 18 and 25 as holidays for being polling days to facilitate people to go to the polling stations for voting and added that the PPPP does not demand deployment of army on polling days. Former adviser Shah Mohammed Shah, Aftab Khanzada, Sikandar Hayat and Zia Abbas were also present on the occasion.
