More than 110 villages of three districts Layyah, Khushab and Bhakkar have been declared as calamity hit areas, which were badly affected by the recent floods. According to an official source, farmers of these three districts have been exempted from Malia and Aabiana and Agri-taxes by the government.
Meanwhile, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) on the request of Punjab Relief Department has despatched another consignment of 2000 wheat flour bags to 9 flood hit districts of the province for early rehabilitation of the victims.
Director General, Relief Punjab Muhammad Irfan Elahi stated that UNDP relief goods have been sent to District Co-ordination Officers of Rajanpur, DG Khan, Muzaffargarh, Rahim Yar Khan, Mianwali, Sialkot, Gujrat and Jhang districts for onward distribution among the flood victims. He said more assistance has been sought from UNDP for supply of 5000 tents/tarpaulins for providing proper shelter to the victims.
All District Co-ordination Officers have been directed to carry out comprehensive survey of damage caused to standing crops, houses and loss of human lives so that compensation could be paid to remaining victims timely. He said DCOs have further been directed to furnish the final list of the villages totally and partially devastated by the flood so that they could be declared calamity hit areas.
