Pakistan Association of Auto Parts Exporters (Paapex) chairman, Tahir Javed Malik, while welcoming exemption from sales tax in electricity given to 345 export oriented industries, has demanded that the exemption should also be applied on auto parts industry.
In a statement issued here on Friday, Tahir Javed said that electricity charges are very high for industrial use due to which input cost was also high making it difficult for Pakistani products to compete in the international market. He said that exemption from sales tax to 345 industries in first phase was a right step, as it would help reduce the input cost.
However, he said that auto parts industry was also playing a very important role in enhancing exports. New investment of billions of rupees was coming in to this sector creating new job opportunities. Nevertheless, this sector was facing hardships due to high tariff of electricity. He urged the Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz and chairman Central Board of Revenue (CBR) to give exemption to Auto parts industry from sales tax on electricity so as this sector could play a role according to its potential for strengthening of national economy.
