The University of Health Sciences (UHS) vice-chancellor Professor Malik Hussain Mubbashar and the staff members have congratulated UHS Board of Governors' Chairman Professor Dr Mahmood Ahmad Chaudhry on being conferred Hilal-i-Imtiaz by President General Pervez Musharraf in recognition to his extraordinary services rendered in establishing the UHS.
Dr Mahmood is a surgeon of international stature and repute. A distinctive graduate from Nishtar Medical College Multan, he did his FRCS from London. He is also FCPS since 1989, and member of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council since January 2005. With more than 12-years' teaching experience in surgery in various British Hospitals, such as Oxford and Guy's Hospital, Dr Mahmood has done original research work on Breast Cancer and Hepato Biliary Surgery which has been published in international journals.
He has played a pivotal role in the establishment of Sheikh Zayed Hospital Lahore, besides making significant contributions to the evolution of Sheikh Zayed Postgraduate Medical Institute.
In recognition to those services, the Government of Pakistan has already conferred Sitara-i-Imtiaz on him. As a result of his efforts, the University of Health Sciences were established in 2002. The university has won the recognition of World Health Organisation (WHO), General Medical Council UK, General Dental Council UK, and Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).
In September 2004, Professor Mahmood formalised co-operative agreement with the University of Texas USA, which envisages collaboration in research and exchange of medical scholars.
