The fear of massive bloodshed during the local bodies election haunted the people for sometime has been evaporated following the completion of polling at newly created Tando Allahyar district in peaceful manner except few minor incidents.
At Tando Allahyar UC-1 polling station-1, six persons, some of them armed with small firearms entered the polling station and made the entire polling staff hostage and decamped with six books including two books for voting to Nazim and Niab Nazim.
The polling staff confirmed the incident but they failed to identify the people who made them hostage and decamped with six books. However, they stopped the polling much before the schedule time and the matter has been reported to higher authorities.
At UC-4 polling station at Liaquat School polling terminated at 2.30 pm. When contacted, the administrative officer Dr Arjun Kumar said that large number of people entered in the polling station and started stamping papers in favour of their candidates. It was for this reason we stopped the polling on the pretext that the voting papers have been exhausted and informed the authorities.
He said at about 4.30 pm the duty magistrate arrived on the scene and asked us to transfer all ballot boxes to court, which we have brought here and now we will file our written report.
It may be mentioned that the Haq Prast candidate for UC Nazim Dr Khalid Qaimkhani has already been elected unopposed.
In rural areas elsewhere in district the election generally remain peaceful except for a minor incident at UC Jhundo Miri where scuffle between two rival candidates was reported.
Reports reaching here from Mirpurkhas and Sanghar also indicates that the first phase of the election have been completed peacefully except for minor incidents. The allegations and counter allegations continued but there are reports that the alliance of Khushhal Pakistan, Faqir Group and Haq Prast are in better position.
