The Sindh Pakistan Rangers Director General and Operational Commander of all forces in local bodies elections in Sindh, Major General Javed Zia has said that law and order situation in Karachi and other parts of the province was normal on polling day.
He was briefing the media persons about the situation on the polling day in the first phase of LB elections at the Rangers Headquarters here on Thursday.
He said that 70,000 Rangers, Police and Armed Forces personnel have been deployed in Karachi to ensure a peaceful election without any untoward incidents. Out of this, total 33,000 were police personnel and 10,655 Rangers.
The Army has deployed 5 control headquarters (CHQ) and 15 battalions in Karachi and 5 CHQ and 17 battalions in the rest of the province. Major General Javed Zia said that first time, during the elections, complaint cells had been set up at Karachi at town level. No violence was reported.
"I have visited different areas of the city, including Gulberg, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, North Nazimabad, Saddar, Baldia and other areas", he said, adding that the polling process was continue in peaceful manner. He, however, said that some complaints about irregularities, clashes between rival groups were received and some outlaws, including a returning officer, were arrested in Karachi.
He said the polling process was also continuing in the other parts of the province and the whole law and order situation remained satisfactory. Sindh Home Secretary Ghulam Muhammad Muhtarm, CCPO Karachi Tariq Jamil and other high-ranking officials of Pakistan Rangers were also present on this occasion.
