The Sindh government has prepared a plan to convert/establish nine monotechnic institutes into poly trade vocational institutes- each of these will introduce teaching of at least five locally demanded trade. This is being done on the directives of Sindh Minister for Education and Literacy Dr Hamida Khuhro.
In this respect, the Director of Technical Education Sindh, Raja Ghulam Hussein, presented a plan to Dr Khuhro and Secretary Education Sindh, Syed Ghulam Ali Pasha.
The project, estimated to cost Rs 17.50 million, is par of revamping and reorganisation of technical and vocational education to provide maximum possible opportunities to the youth of the province in the private job market.
Raja was of the view that the plan would help overcome the drop out rate and would also support poverty alleviation and increase employment in Sindh.
The institutions included in this project are: Government Monotechnic Institute (GMI), New Karachi, GMI Orangi Town Sector eleven and a half, GMI Kohsar Latifabad, Hyderabad, GMI Peerabad, Hyderabad, GMI Matiari, GMI Mehar, Dadu, GMI Ghotki, GMI Shikarpur and GMI Garhi Yasin.
The trades to be introduced are: TV servicing, radio and tape recorder repairing, Electrical wiring and repair of household appliances, Computer hardware and software, Woodworking plumbering, welding (Gas and Electric), Servicing and minor repair of tractors, Auto mechanic (Motorcycle), Refrigeration and air conditioning, Poultry farming, fish farming, Dress-making and fashion designing beautician, food preservation etc.
The Minister was further informed that in these institutes all the subjects of general education scheme of class 6th to 10th would be offered to the students in addition to these trades and after completion of Poly Trade courses the students would be able to find jobs in local market or they could start their own shop along with continue education on self sustainable basis.
