As many as 18 exit and entry points in Islamabad have been located for installing trans-receivers, antennas and other software that would enable the authorities to stop misuse and theft of cars through centrally controlled tracker chip fixed on the wind screen of each vehicle.
The vehicles would be identified through this chip as soon as it reaches entry and exit points, said official source of the district administration here on Sunday.
The chip would cost only Rs 350 for the entire life of the vehicle, he added.
It is pertinent to mention that National Database and Registration Authority will introduce this Vehicle Identification Tracking System (VITS) in the Capital to tackle the problem of car lifting.
Excise and Taxation Department would provide every assistance to Nadra for launching VITS and would provide every required information about vehicles, he added.
The system would be linked to a control room at Zero point and police would be able to stop the stolen vehicles at exit and entry points.
He said in case chip is removed the software pointing towards tempering would identify the vehicles and police would be able to impound it for further investigation.
The electronic registration and transfer of vehicles would put an end to corruption in excise and taxation department as bogus registration or registration without payment of government dues would become impossible.
"At least 650,000 vehicles would be allotted computerized registration number under VITS," he added.
All information relating to vehicles, including its registration number, colour, engine number, owner's identity and chassis number would be incorporated in this chip.
All changes regarding particulars of the vehicles would be subsequently corporated in the chip, however, the original information would also remain alongside the amendments.
The sources said VITS would be hopefully launched in Islamabad next month after removal of some technical problems.
