Provincial Minister for Communication and Works Chaudhry Muhammad Zaheer ud Din Khan has said Punjab government was making its all-out efforts to maintain masses' trust in public sector educational institutions, which were being brought at par with other reputed private education institutes.
Furthermore, the government is taking special measures for development of education sector and providing Rs 150 million annually to every district for the betterment of education system.
Talking to newsmen and students after awards distribution ceremony held for the position holders in the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Faisalabad at Divisional Public School, he said government has also started Rs 21 billion projects of school reforms in 15 districts of the provinces.
He added the Punjab government would spend Rs 125 billion to improve education sector during next 10-years.
He disclosed that Punjab government has prepared a comprehensive policy to curb cheating business; booty mafia and all other unfair means and examinations would be held in a transparent manner. "Merit policy is also strictly maintained to improve the standard of education in country," he added.
New course disciplines are also being introduced in school, colleges and universities to equate the Pakistan's education system with the educational institutions of developed countries, he further added.
The minister said government has taken elaborate measures to enhance enrolment ratio, and for this purpose free of cost books have been provided to the students up to class 10th, besides starting evening classes at both male and female educational institutions.
Chaudhry Zaheer, who is also Secretary General PML-Q Punjab, said the fight against poverty would be continued and duration of education sector reforms' programme has been extended to 10 years and the World Bank has described this programme as a model for others.
He said all middle schools of the province were being upgraded to high school level under a phased programme.
The provincial minister expressed satisfaction over the pass percentage 69.68 in intermediate examinations and said the government education policy was yielding positive results.
Giving the details, Controller Examinations Professor Muhammad Ziaul Haq said that as many as 43,175 candidates took the examination of which 30,085 were declared successful.
