The government has raised allocation for the education in its revised medium-term development framework (MTDF) by pledging rupees five billion more to the sector. The allocation was increased to Rs 119.7 billion from the previous of Rs 114.78 billion.
Sources told Business Recorder different educational projects would be undertaken in next five years, ie, 2005-10. Both the federal and provincial governments would contribute Rs 26.6 billion and Rs 93.1, respectively.
The allocation for primary education has been increased to Rs 20.78 billion from Rs 19.95 billion, and for the secondary education to Rs 15.06 billion from Rs 11.37 billion.
Similarly, allocation for elementary education was increased to Rs 20.49 billion from Rs 19.95 billion, besides enhancing allocation for college education to Rs 16.26 billion from Rs 9.26 billion.
The government has also committed in its revised MTDF Rs 28.18 billion for technical education instead of Rs 27.88 billion previously allocated.
The allocation for scholarship was also raised to Rs 9.79 billion from Rs 9.29 billion whereas it has promised Rs 9.14 billion for teachers' capacity building as compared to only Rs 5.78 earmarked in the previous MTDF. Apart from this, it is expected the private sector would also contribute between Rs 40-60 billion to the education sector.
Different educational projects are in the pipeline and it is hoped their implementation would help the government achieve its objectives of improving literacy rate in the country.
