National Accountability Bureau, Sindh, on Wednesday arrested a former project manager Port Qasim Authority (PQA) for his involvement in financial bungling resulting in a loss of Rs 350 million to the national exchequer.
A statement issued by NAB said that the absconding accused Abdul Hakeen Makhdoom misappropriated funds of bulk water supply scheme of PQA in which five of his colleagues including Irshad Ahmed Shaikh, former deputy general manager, Sahib Dad Mengal, former deputy general manager, Hamzo Khan Gabol, assistant executive engineer, Pir Bus Solangi, executive engineer, and Abdul Satatr Mandokhail contractor of PQA were also involved. These accused have already been arrested.
Main charges against these arrested officials are defective construction, use of substandard material, corruption and corrupt practices and misuse of authority in the development scheme of PQA. The work was executed during 1995-98 in three different phases.
The accused Abdul Hakim Makhdoom was produced before the administrative judge of accountability court No 1 on Wednesday and remanded to jail custody.
