Oil and Natural Gas Corp (ONGC) said on Saturday it has restored 60,000 bpd output from its Bombay High field, where output fell by 123,000 bpd after fire destroyed a major platform last month.
"The production has commenced from the NQ complex of Bombay High North field at 1500 hours on August 27," an ONGC statement said. It said the normal output of 261,000 bpd would be restored only after a new platform was built.
"The NQ platform is back on line and oil is flowing, bringing production to 215,000 bpd," Subir Raha, chairman of ONGC told reporters. "We have recouped about 60 percent of loss of production."
Raha said production will be raised by another 18,000 bpd by December 2006 from its two new oil fields D-1 and D-33 in the Bombay offshore and that the company would hire a new platform in six months to replace the destroyed platform.
The fire also engulfed the field's gas output, which fell to 6.1 million cubic metres a day from 10.2 million cubic metres. ONGC plans to increase its gas output to 8.5 million cubic metres a day by mid-September.
Crude was discovered in 1974 in this field, which is expected to produce oil for another 20-25 years.
