Two boats, carrying 1,108 Pakistanis deported by the Omani government, arrived at Ghas Bander, Keamari, here early on Tuesday. The arrangements for their release from the jails and deportation were made by the Ansar Burney Welfare Trust International, with the help of Pakistan Embassy in Muscat and the government of Oman.
They travelled in two boats. The vessel, "Al-Mohammadi-II", brought 558 Pakistanis, while 550 came by "Al-Qadri." They were released one by one after the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) checked their emergency passports.
Nearly all of them belong to Punjab and NWFP provinces and had been smuggled to the Gulf state through Taftan, crossing the Pakistan-Iran border illegally near Mand Ballu. They paid the human traffickers different amounts, ranging from Rs 5, 000 to Rs 25,000.
