Sindh Inspector General Police Asad Jehangir has directed the Karachi DIG Traffic to take steps for ensuring the implementation of "Traffic Warden System" at schools.
In this regard, he said, the school management's should be contacted to select regular volunteers, who during school hours and after would help children cross the roads safely.
He was talking to a 10-member delegation of Defence Residents Society at Central Police Office here on Friday.
The IGP pointed out that traffic warden system is part of the community policing whereby voluntary co-operation is extended to police under road safety concept.
On the complaint by the delegation that traffic flow suffers because of improper traffic signal working timings, Asad Jahangir directed the DIG to hold a formal meeting with Traffic Engineering Bureau and DHA, to have a review of this issue and take steps for modifying traffic signal operation timings in the light of the same.
In view of reservations expressed by the delegation with regard to registration of FIR, Sindh police chief asked the CCPO Karachi to ensure registration of FIR on the basis of a written complaint duly signed by the complainant.
As regards elimination of street crimes, the Sindh IGP informed the visitors that police have started research process on scientific lines whereby not only the modus operandi of criminals but also timings of committing of crimes were being studied and preventive measures taken accordingly.
He emphasised that public co-operation plays a cardinal role in the elimination of crimes and, therefore, the police officers should maintain close liaison with the citizens and promote public-friendly environment.
