The execution of four condemned prisoners accused of gang rape of a Christian girl of Chak Jhumra has been deferred in the light of the stay order issued by the Supreme Court.

The four--Shehzad alias Shadda, Umar Hayat, Muhammad Ashraf and Mubarik Ali--were awarded death sentence by an anti-terrorism court for raping a Faisalabad Christian woman named Samia in November 1999. The Lahore High Court upheld the sentence, which was also confirmed by the Supreme Court on May 30 this year.
