Advisor to Chief Minister for Local Government Waseem Akhtar has said that expeditious completion of housing schemes for low income people is the foremost priority of Sindh government. During a visit to Hawkes Bay Scheme -42, he called for handing over possession of plots to 40,000 allottees at the earliest.
"The issue, lying pending for the last 19 years, should now be resolved, and handing over possession of plots to the allottees should start during this month," he directed the concerned officials.
During this visit he reviewed the pace of work in every sector.
DCO Karachi Fazlur Rehman, Project Director Shafiqur Rehman Paracha, and EDO Works Safraz Shah also accompanied the Advisor on this occasion.
In the briefing about the projects, the Advisor for Local Government was informed that Hawkes Bay scheme has 71 sectors, out of which ballotting of 42,608 plots has been completed, including 23,000 plots of 80 sq yards and 120 sq yards in low cost housing.
He was informed that sectors 11, 12, 23, 26, 27, 28, 28A, 31, 47, 46, 59 and 60 have 12,159 plots of 60 sq yards, 13,132 plots of 120 sq yards, 3655 of 240 sq yards and 592 plots of 400 sq yards.
The survey, demarcation and construction of roads in these sectors has been completed while survey, demarcation and road construction work is going on in sectors 26 and 26A.
He was informed that sectors 16, 17, 30, 32, 34, 35, 46, 49, have 2644 plots of 60 sq yards, 5091 of 120 sq yards, 1402 of 240 sq yards and 93 plots of 400 sq yards. The work on survey, demarcation and road construction is going on in these sectors.
The Advisor was informed that construction of 6 km long carpeted roads to connect sectors 26, 27, 28, 28A, 29, 30, 31, 32, 40 and 41 with main Hawkes Bay Road has been completed, while plantation work is fast progressing. He was told that big signboards, showing plot plans have been installed in all these sectors whereby every person will be able to locate his allotted plot.
Waseem directed that pace of development works in the scheme should be further accelerated so that handing over possession of plots by Sindh Governor could be started by the end of this month.
It may be mentioned here that plots in Lyari Development Project were allotted 19 years back but development work suffered from pendency since then. It started only after a recent visit by Sindh Governor Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan.
The Advisor also visited the Beach Avenue Project and was informed that construction of 256 flats was in progress and total 471 flats are being constructed in co-ordination with the private sector.
Waseem expressed satisfaction over restarting of construction work and said that work on remaining flats should also be started.
He also visited the housing scheme for members of Karachi Press Club in Hawkes Bay and was informed that development work was fast progressing, with 60 percent internal water supply system and 100 percent sewerage system in sectors 3 and 3A having been completed.
He was informed that survey, demarcation, construction of roads and site office sewerage and water projects have been completed in both sectors while space has also been earmarked in the Society for playgrounds, schools, mosques and commercial areas. He was informed that 36500 feet long roads in both sectors have been constructed.
It was stated that two alternative routes are under consideration for providing communication facilities from Journalist Society to the City and thereafter the Society will be connected with Northern Bypass and ICI Bridge.
The LG Advisor directed that a working paper be prepared for a meeting for the purpose of increased water and electricity supply for this scheme to ensure its early completion.
He reviewed the entire scheme by walking through various sectors and said that the government was giving priority to welfare schemes for journalist community. He said it was delightful to note that development works, inaugurated by Sindh Governor two years hack, were being fast implemented.
