Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Sheheryar Khan has linked the staging of international Test matches and one-day international (ODI) at the most neglected Sialkot with the early construction of a four-star hotel in the area.
He was addressing the local business community, members of District Cricket Association (DCA) here at Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI).
The PCB Chairman said the board was fully aware of the outstanding cricket potential of the Sialkot as the best quality sports goods producing and exporting city of the country, which also had produced several heroes in cricket. But, we had to ensure the ICC rules and regulations, according to which, the PCB was unable to hold any international cricket match in the cities in the absence of four or five star hotels, he added.
The PCB Chairman promised for holding international cricket matches at Sialkot after the early construction of the four or five-star hotels with gymnasium and swimming pools in this export-oriented city.
He stressed upon the Sialkot business community to sponsor the Sialkot region's cricket team financially under the PCB regional cricket teams sponsorship programme for the promotion of domestic cricket in the country, as the PCB had already taken appropriate steps for the promotion of cricket at gross root level through boosting the cricket at schools.
As many as 800 cricket clubs had been registered by the PCB paving the way for promotion of domestic cricket in the country, he informed the house.
The PCB Chairman said that PCB was ready to develop maximum cricket grounds in Sialkot, but the PCB would require the guarantee of five points, regarding the availability of electricity, water, drainage, grounds, possession and maintenance funds. If those assurances were given to it, the PCB would do a lot in this connection, he added.
Sheheryar said that PCB had injected the new life into the dying cricket at school level, now the PCB was planning to hold the all Pakistan Schools level cricket championship in which more than 1,500 government and private schools would take part next year.
Earlier, SCCI President Qaiser Shabbir presented the address of welcome and demanded the allotment of international matches in the hub of sports goods.
