District Co-ordination Officer Attock Babar Khan Nasir has urged upon the NGOs to play their effective role for enhancement of literacy rate in the country as this is the social obligation of every citizen to promote literacy.
This, he said, while addressing a seminar in connection with Literacy Week at Zila Council Hall Attock here on Saturday. The seminar was arranged by Literacy Department in collaboration with the local NGOs.
DCO said that an effective co-ordination between Literacy Department and NGOs is necessary to create awareness among the public about this national cause as literacy is basic requirement for the healthy growth of the society.
Speaking of this occasion Principal Government Girls College Hazro Mrs Shamim Niaz and an educationist Syed Fayyaz Hussain Bukhari laud the government efforts for improving the literacy rate in the country, which will have great impact on the people. They asked for more incentives to the teachers so that they could effectively contribute in the education sector.
They urged upon the community to play due role in this regard because illiteracy is the root cause of several social evils.
Earlier EDO Literacy Professor Waris Khan told that his department established 248 literacy centres in far-flung areas of the district and so far 11,000 illiterate people have been provided basic education.
