President Pervez Musharraf left for New York on Sunday to attend three-day summit of the world leaders beginning from Wednesday on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the United Nations.
Talking to newsmen at PAF base Chaklala before his departure for New York, the President said during his visit to US he would project Pakistan in a strong way and emphasise for resolution of Kashmir and Palestine issues for the sake of regional and world peace.
The President said that during his meeting with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly session, they would discuss the way forward for resolution of core issue of Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the US visit has many other important angles besides his address at the UN General Assembly. During his meeting with world leaders and inter-action at these fora, the President would highlight Pakistan's point of view on important domestic, regional and international issues.
He said he would meet US President Bush where the focus would be on resolution of Kashmir and Palestinian issues. They would also exchange views on issues relating to terrorism and bilateral relations between Pakistan and the United States.
President's entourage includes among others Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Dr Atta-ur-Rehman and PM's Advisor on Women Development Nilofar Bakhtiar.
The President was seen off by Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, Senate Chairman Mohammedmian Soomro, Vice Chief of Army Staff General Ahsan Saleem Hayat and senior civil and military officials. A very busy schedule awaits President Pervez Musharraf as he arrives in New York this evening for the UN world summit.
In addition to his all important address at the high-level plenary meeting to mark the 60th anniversary of the United Nations, Musharraf during his week-long stay will also make opening statement at the high-level roundtable on Innovation and Investment and attend the informal summit on Interfaith Co-operation for Peace.
President Musharraf will be meeting the representatives of the corporate world at a luncheon hosted by the US-Pak Business Council and the US Chamber of Commerce.
He will also address the Pak-American Women Representatives and inform them about concerted efforts made by the government during the last six years for the empowerment of women. These include more representations in the parliament and local government institutions.
The President will also be meeting young Pakistanis and Pakistani-Americans to share with them his vision for the future of Pakistan. He will also address the American Jewish Congress.
He will be the chief guest at a community dinner being organised by the National Commission for Human Development, and will address the world leaders forum on Global Development at Columbia University.
On the sidelines of the UN summit, the President will hold bilateral meetings with several world leaders. They include presidents of United States, China, and Iran and prime ministers of India, Britain, Malaysia, Bangladesh, and a number of other world leaders.
