The Russian economy grew 5.7 percent in the first half of the year compared with the same period of 2004, the country's statistics committee reported Tuesday.
Growth in the second quarter came to 6.1 percent from second quarter 2004 and was 5.2 percent in the first three months of the year compared with the January-March period of 2004.
For all of 2005 the government foresees an expansion in gross domestic product of between 5.9 and six percent, down from 7.2 percent last year despite rising oil prices.
