The Punjab government has approved induction plan of 34,000 new teachers in the educational institutions in the province. This was stated by Punjab Minister for Management and Professional Development, Sardar Hassan Akhtar at a seminar on literacy day here in Government Islamia Degree Collage Kasur on Thursday.
He said that along with teachers, other lower staff would also be appointed with the aim to boost education sector. The induction would be made in next month, he added.
The minister said that the government's step to increase budget to Rs 21 billion under three-year Education Reforms Programme was an encouraging step.
He said, World Bank will provide six billion rupees annually for the uplift of education sector in the province.
"The WB has appreciated the Educational Reforms Programme of the province and assured to expand this programme", he added.
He said that the government has established a separate department of literacy to increase the literacy rate and bring awareness among the students about the importance of education.
Executive District Officer (EDO) Literacy, Muhammad Aslam Shaad while addressing the seminar said that literacy rate of Kasur district has increased from 37.8 percent to over 50 percent.
