The Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) is prepared to install 2.3 million Wireless Loop Line (WLL) within a short period. Chairman PTCL, Zaffar A Khan while talking to APP here on Friday pointed out that PTCL had acquired the WLL licence and added PTCL would increase the fixed line connectivity and improve the service.
He said the fixed line connectivity, which was four million a few years ago had now risen to well over five million.
The Ufone, which was 100 percent subsidiary of the PTCL, was also rapidly increasing its connectivity and the figure which was 400 000 some one and a half years ago had now gone up to 3.3 million connections.
"We would like to be the dominant player in the market to have the biggest share not because we are PTCL but through service and good marketing strategies" he added.
To a question, he said the PTCL was completely ready to hand over the charge to the Etisalat as part of the privatisation process. It was however, up to the Privatisation Commission to tell when this would happen.
PTCL still had a lot of demand for the landlines and the organisation was trying to meet that. Zaffar explained that the landlines were more expensive to install now and there were cheaper, newer technologies but fixed lines still had attraction and market. However, the growth rate was much higher in the wireless area, whether it was cellular or WLL, he added.
