The opposition Pakistan People's Party (PPP) has declared that the party will not support any coalition or group of the government in third phase of the local bodies election in the province.
The PPP also declared that it is a part of combined opposition and this alliance had fielded candidates in Multan district and its six towns of Shershah, Shah Rukn-i-Alam, Bosan and Mumtazabad, as it was the firm decision of the party that no seat was left open for the ruling coalition in the area.
Provincial deputy secretary information Khawaja Rizwan Alam and secretary information Multan Tariq Raza Khan said here on Tuesday.
According to them, the meeting of the PPP, reviewed the overall political situation of the southern Punjab, particularly the situation emerging after the local bodies election and decided that despite the negative tactics and victimisation, the struggle of the party would be continued against the dictatorship.
Criticising the present regime, Khawaja Rizwan Alam said the government had failed totally in resolving the problems of the people. It was noted at the meeting that the present regime, which was a group of vested interests, was facing a crisis due to sharp differences and disputes. The meeting was informed that due to this crisis some of the ruling parties and individuals contacted the PPP for help in the third phase of the local bodies election.
The party was of the opinion that this situation proved that the local bodies election were rigged in favour of the government-backed candidates and expressed fear that the same practices and method would be used for third phase of the election.
The party alleged that the election commission was also responsible for the rigging as the authorities supported the ruling parties in rigging and for pressurising the opposition candidates through the police.
