The Karachi Women's Peace Committee organised a meeting on Wednesday in which representatives of women bodies and social welfare organisations discussed the plight of the women in the society.
A joint statement issued on the occasion demanded of the authorities that a comprehensive meaningful action be taken immediately to provide justice to women victims.
It was recommended that for improving the working of the law enforcement agencies all police stations must register FIRs of complainants immediately.
Trained female medico-legal personnel must be made immediately approachable for the examination of sex crimes.
Nargis Rahman, Chairperson of Karachi Women's Peace Committee, Begum Tanzeem Faridi, President of Apwa, Laila Serfaraz, Executive President Apwa, Dr Saleema Ahmed, President Federation of Business Professional Women, Dr Akram Khatoon, President of Federation of University Women, Sheerin Rehmatullah, Institute of Social Policy and Research, Rehana Saleem, Dr Naseem Salahuddin, Professor Shaista Zaidi, Akhtar Ibrahim, Charmaine Hidayullah, Atiya Shujad, Dr Laila Hashwani, Anjum Abadi, Nusrat Alam, Humaira Dar, Khursheed Ather, Tasleem Siddiqui, Shahida Nabi and others attended the meeting.
