Frontier Corps (FC) officials on Monday seized huge cache of destructive weapons including six Stinger missiles, bombs and anti-tank mines in Mohmand Agency.
"The seizure which can be termed as the biggest ever in Fata outside Waziristan, was made by Mohmand Rifles Wing of FC," said Inspector General FC, Major General Tariq Masood while addressing a press conference here at historic Balahisar Fort on Monday.
Weapons were recovered from the residence of a person named Taj Muhammad in Mohmand Ghat area without any resistance, added IG FC.
He said the Intelligence Wing of Mohmand Rifles received report about huge dumps of arms and ammunition in Mohmand Ghat area of Mohmand Agency. A raiding party was constituted under the supervision of Colonel Khalid of Mohmand Rifles, which effectively cordoned off the area last night.
On Monday morning, Major General Tariq Masood continued, the officials raided the house and recovered weapons. Owner of the house, Taj Muhammad was arrested on the spot.
IG FC said the interrogation cell of FC is presently engaged in investigation and it was not clear why weapons were dumped at the site. He said the law enforcers will investigate from every angle including terrorism, Afghan war and disturbing law and order situation.
He said the weapons seemed rusty and corroded, but were usable and effective. In response to a query about sale of the weapons by the dumper, Major General Tariq Masood reiterated that reasons were not clear why he stored such a huge cache of arms.
Details of seized arms is RPG-7 rockets 100, 107 mm rocket 12, 75mm RR rounds 54, 82mm(3") mortar bombs 229, 60 mm mortar bombs 193, current ignition missile (small size) 437, current ignition missile (large size) 7, 20 mm gun rounds 42 boxes, anti personnel mines 331, anti tank mines 4, fuse long 145, bombs (type unknown) 129, primers all type 918, fuses all type 1487, pressure switch 45, mine trigger 40, batteries 3, stinger missile 6, missile with fins 2, artillery rounds 1, ammunition 20 mm gun 210, magazine 20 mm gun 4 and seven hand grenades.
