A total 823 women are contesting election in district councils in five city districts, Multan, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala, and 920 women are in the run for 38 tehsil councils of these districts. For 1,151 seats of district councils, 2,432 women are in the run, while 55 women have already been declared elected unopposed.
As many as 5,555 women are contesting in the third phase of local bodies elections from Punjab for 2,302 reserved seats of district councils and town councils. Three women seats - one in Sargodha and two in Bhakkar - will remain vacant as no candidate from Tehsil Kot Momin and Kalur Kot (Mianwali) has filed nominations.
There are seven seats in Kot Momin (Sargodha) but only six women filed their nomination papers. Similarly, only one candidate filed papers while there are 3 reserved seats in Bhakkar district council from Tehsil Kullar Kot.
Total 3,123 women are contesting for 1,151 seats of Tehsil/Town Councils while six women have been declared elected unopposed by returning officers.
Four women have been elected from Tehsil Dina in Jehlum and two women have been elected from Tehsil Mankera of district Bhakkar.
