The World Bank (WB) on Wednesday agreed to provide technical assistance to the ministry of social welfare and Special Education in implementing the Food Support Programme (FSP) being run by Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal.
This was decided in a meeting between World Bank delegation, led by Sector Manager of Social Protection and Human Development Unit South Asia Region Mansoora Rashid and Federal Minster for Social Welfare and Special Education Zobaida Jalal held here.
The meeting focused on the social protection strategy of the country. It was agreed that the ministry would play a lead role in co-ordinating various activities in the social sector between the provincial and district governments, which would be responsible for its implementation.
Keeping in view the resource constraint of Pakistan, the World Bank agreed to provide funds for carrying out mega projects of safety nets such as Food Support Programme and programme of Child Support, wherein the poor people who cannot afford to send their children to school will be provided Rs 200 for one child and Rs 350 for two children per month for sending their children to school.
Besides this, the strategy of integrated approach for implementation of social welfare projects was also discussed.
The WB team appreciated the pro-active approach of PBM and agreed to provide technical support in this regard.
Social welfare ministry additional secretary Noor Saghir Khan, PBM managing director Brigadier Muhammad Sarfraz (Retd) and representatives of World Bank were also present on the occasion.
