A high-level meeting held here on Thursday stressed on completing projects of Tameer-e-Karachi on their schedule, asserting progress of Karachi was tantamount to progress of whole country.
The meeting of Tameer Karachi Programme Steering Committee was held with Sindh Chief Secretary Fazalur Rehman in the chair. The meeting took stock of various uplift projects funded by federal and provincial governments, City District Government Karachi (CDGK), and other stakeholders including KPT, EPZA, Pakistan Steel, EPB, PIA, PQA, SBP and Headquarters 5 Corps.
CDGK Caretaker Fazal Rehman gave a briefing to the meeting on these projects and said they included projects related to roads, flyovers, bridges, underpasses, solid waste management, water supply, sewerage disposal and introducing sweeping machines. They said stakeholders other than federal, provincial and city governments sponsored 15 of those projects.
Giving further details, he said the KPT was funding four schemes of Rs 1889 million. They included Hino Chowk Flyover, Rehabilitation of Mai Kolachi Bypass from Shahrah-e-Roomi to Submarine Chowk, Rehabilitation of M T Khan Road, and Rehabilitation of M A Jinnah Road from Keamari to Jinnah Bridge.
He said three projects funded by the EPZA were construction of road from National Highway to Shahrah-e-Mehran including construction of overhead bridge at rail-crossing, road scheme from Shahrah-e-Mehran to Port Qasim, and corridor between 8,000 Road to Shahrah-e-Mehran. The projects were being funded with a cost of Rs 438.517.
