Federal Minister for Environment, Tahir Iqbal has said that government was working to solve the issue of negative effects of plastic bags. Talking to a private TV channel, he said plastic bags were used world-wide but their quality was better as compared to plastic bags used in Pakistan.
These plastic bags are thrown in the open air after use, which often chock sewerage system. Water of choked sewerage system some time mixed in drinking water creating health hazards.
To a question he said, there were two types of plastic bags, one black and the other was white or coloured. Black plastic bags were made of recycled material, which was very dangerous and could contaminate edibles carried in these bags.
There was no permission to produce black plastic bags according to the law adding there was no production of black plastic bags in the country. He said that a campaign 'say no to plastic bag' was launched in the country in order to spread awareness against the harmful effects of plastic bags.
He said that other bags were available in the market to carry things like jute, cotton and paper bags. He said proper collection of garbage could resolve 50 percent problem in the country.
