India's second-largest steel maker, Tata Steel Ltd, sold 1.18 million tonnes of steel in the July-September quarter, up 14 percent from a year earlier, the company said.
It produced 1.32 million tonnes of hot metal and 1.23 million tonnes of crude steel during the same period, up 17 percent and 15 percent respectively from a year ago, the company said in a statement over the weekend.
The rise in sales and production was due to a 1-million-tonne expanded facility coming on stream, Tata Steel said.
"The upgraded 'G' blast furnace has now stabilised and the quarter two production is as per the rated capacity," it said.
The company said its manufacturing costs have showed a downward trend, but did not give financial details.
Sales of cold-rolled steel and galvanised products to automobile industry had risen 10 percent and 221 percent respectively in the second quarter.
The sale of branded products in the corrugated galvanised sheets and cold-rolled sheets also rose 16 percent during the period.
