Hectic activity was seen on the grain market on Monday as buying interest revived significantly as the month of Ramazan is knocking at the door, dealers said.
First of Ramazan is expected to fall on Wednesday or Thursday and buyers were in the market to meet the near-term demand, they said and hoped that the prices may show limited fluctuations even in the wholesale markets.
They expect that the government announced special packages for the month of Ramazan to prevent any unusual increase in the food and other essential items.
On the cereals side, moong Punjab quoted higher at Rs 2750 on increasing demand. Masoor Australia registered at Rs 2800-3000. Urad from Burma low type gained Rs 25 and the best type rose by Rs 50 to Rs 1300. Wheat Mexipak inferior and superior shed Rs 10 to Rs 1070 and Rs 1080.
On the seed side, till low type was higher at Rs 1650 while the good type did not show any change at Rs 1775. Cotton seed oilcake with bag picked up Rs 10 due to surging demand by the buyers.
