The Advisory Committee of the Indus River System Authority (Irsa) on Wednesday reviewed water availability for Kharif 2005 and expressed satisfaction on the reservoirs position and distribution of water. The meeting was held to finalise Rabi 2005-06 (October-March) anticipated water availability, presided over by Irsa Chairman Aman Gul Khattak.
The committee scrutinised in detail assessment made by Irsa technical committee in its meeting held here on September 28 for Rabi 2005-06 anticipated water availability.
The committee estimated 17 percent shortage during the Rabi 2005-06 season with anticipated water availability of 21.818 million acres feet (MAF) at rim station, 10.598 MAF carryover storage, and 30.64 MAF provincial shares.
The break-up of the provincial shares would be 16.540 MAF for Punjab, 12.379 MAF for Sindh, 0.701 MAF for NWFP and 1.022 MAF for Balochistan.
The committee agreed to follow the Provision of Water Apportionment Accord, 1991. It was also decided in the meeting that the position would be reviewed as and when required according to the prevailing conditions.
