Pakistani High Commissioner for UK Dr Maleeha Lodhi on Wednesday congratulated Pakistan's A1 Grand Prix race driver, Adam Khan, for putting Pakistan on the map of motorsport.
Adam Khan who called on Maleeha late on Tuesday said it was an absolute honour to be racing for Pakistan and that he was aiming to win the championship. He was accompanied by his father Amjad Khan and producer/director Ahmed Jamal.
In the Brands Hatch race a week ago, Pakistan stood 9th out of 25 countries and the next A1 Grand Prix final would be played on October 09 in Germany.
Pakistan made its mark in the World Cup of Motorsport by gaining 9th place in 25 teams in the A1 Grand Prix on September 25, in Kent, finishing ahead of the USA, the UK and India.
Racing for Pakistan, 20-year old Adam Khan competed in the Eurocup Renault V6 series, the British F3 Championship and has been a Jordan Grand Prix driver for the past two years. "I am very excited to represent Pakistan in the World Cup of Motorsport. Judging by the enormous crowds that attended the car launch earlier this year I believe the support that I am going to get from Pakistan will be phenomenal. I will do them proudly," says Adam Khan.
A1 Team Pakistan Chairman, Arif Husain said, "our inclusion in the A1 Grand Prix heralds Pakistan's entry into a sport that is totally new to the country. I am very honoured and proud that Pakistani people, industrialists and businessmen are supporting us in the pioneering and exciting World Cup of Motorsport". The World Cup will comprise 10-12 races and finish in March 2006. The next race is in Germany on October 09.
Founded and headed by Sheikh Maktoum Hasher, the A1 Grand Prix is set to be a major competitor for the well-established Formula 1. The A1 is different from Formula 1 in that all the cars racing are identical and individuals will race for their countries. Thus driver skill will determine each country's place in the competition.
