Sindh police chief Asad Jahangir Khan, in view of threats from terrorists organisations still operative in Karachi, has instructed police to enhance its vigilance around sensitive locations, buildings, mosques and imamabargahs.
In his instructions on Wednesday, to CCPO Karachi and regional police officers of Sukkur and Hyderabad to make elaborate security arrangements to avoid untoward incidents, including attacks on the lives of people inside mosques and imamabargahs, the IGP has asked them to be extra vigilant during Ramazan.
These security arrangements are also to be extended to all those places where Namaz-e-Taraveeh are especially held. He has asked SDPOs/SHOs to remain in touch with the management of mosques, imamabargahs and religious schools to secure these places with joint efforts of the local community, nazims, naib nazims and CPLC.
The IGP has also directed regional heads to detail police personnel in parking lots for checking of vehicles besides parking at safe distance to avert incident of terrorism.
The picket in-charge deployed at sensitive religious congregational places are asked to ensure that the people coming to mosques and imamabargahs are properly checked in collaboration with the management's volunteer.
The IGP in his instruction asked the official to make snap checking effective besides maintaining close contacts with special branch/CID and other intelligence agencies, as a measure of enhanced security and vigilance. He has asked to keep standby arrangement of bomb disposal squad. This should be followed by through checking of public transport and other vehicles; especially those parked around mosques, imambargahs and at places of traveeh.
The IGP has said that officers in each shift would be responsible for tabulating the number of vehicles checked and communicate it to CCPO/RPOs, who would submit a consolidated report daily to PPO.
The IGP has issued strict instruction to the DIG Traffic Police to ensure smooth flow of traffic so that traffic jams do not create problems for others.
