TSMC, the world's largest contract manufacturer of microchips, posted record high monthly sales in September as clients rush to launch products like video mobile phones and games consoles in time for Christmas.
Its main competitor, United Microelectronics Corp (UMC), also posted its highest revenues in nine months, after customers digested inventories in the first half and began placing new orders.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) said September sales rose 8.9 percent from a year ago to T$25.23 billion (US $760 million). That brought revenues for the July-September quarter to T$69.26 billion, a 0.7 percent dip from a year before.
UMC's sales reached T$8.5 billion in September, down 28 percent from a year ago but up 6 percent from August for the strongest result since last December.
Quarterly revenues for UMC came to T$23.58 billion, down 31.8 percent from a year earlier but up 21.3 percent from the second quarter.
