Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi in a press statement issued from London and received here on Saturday has shown deep grief over the loss of life and property in Punjab, Azad Kashmir, and the Frontier province.
He announced Rs 50 million relief for Azad Kashmir and Frontier province and said an additional aid if required would be provided. He thanked Sindh Government for Rs 10 million emergency aid to Punjab on the occasion.
Punjab CM issued instructions to provincial administration on telephone from London to immediately provide financial support of Rs 100,000 for persons who died in tremor and Rs 50,000 to the injured. He issued instructions to provide medicines, tents and other necessities to needy. He deputed Provincial Ministers Muhammad Basharat Raja for Rawalpindi, Imran Masud for Gujrat and Ajmal Cheema to supervise relief operations.
He cancelled leaves of police and instructed medical department to take measures for vigilance in hospitals in emergency. He also asked C&W Department to check state of damage to public and other buildings and take appropriate measures in that direction.
GOVERNOR GRIEVED Punjab Governor Lieutenant General Khalid Maqbool (Retd) here on Saturday has shown grief over loss of life in the tremor that hit parts of the country this morning. He also showed sympathy with people injured in the tremor. He said that civil administration would do all the needful in this hour of emergency and measures had already been taken in that direction.
