US Ambassador Ryan C. Crocker on Saturday announced 100,000 dollars in emergency relief funds for the assistance of earthquake affected people of Pakistan.
"We offer our deepest sympathy to those affected by the earthquake and the families of the victims. We remain deeply concerned for all affected by this disaster," the American ambassador said.
The US military has offered assistance to their Pakistani counterparts to provide appropriate supplies and assistance for relief efforts. In addition, the Ministry of Interior Air Wing, a joint US-Pakistan programme, has also been authorised to provide helicopters for aerial relief support.
"We are pleased to provide support to Pakistan in the relief efforts. We recall with gratitude that when Americans needed help in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Pakistan stepped forward".
The funds are being provided from the US Agency for International Development to assist communities and individuals affected by the earthquake, according to a press release by the USIS.
This is the fourth time this year that the US government-has provided emergency disaster assistance in Pakistan. In February, USAID provided 100,000 dollars to help communities in NWFP and Balochistan to cope with heavy snowfall and flooding.
