Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has appreciated the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) for extending donation for the earthquake victims.
A delegation of the LCCI met the prime minister here on Wednesday and handed over the cheque of Rs 340 million. The delegation included LCCI President Mian Shafqat, Businessmen Panel Co-chairman and FPCCI and LCCI former presidents, Iftikhar Ali Malik, Mian Misbahur Rehman, Aftab Mughal, Anjum Nisar, Senator Zafar, Mian Talat and Mian Basit Ali.
Talking to the delegation, the prime minister urged upon the traders and industrialists that they should follow the LCCI and come forward with generous donations for their brethren who were badly affected by the worst earthquake.
He hoped that the businessmen and industrialists of the country would rise to the occasion and make substantial contribution to the President's Relief Fund to help the victims in this hour of trial.
He said that the government was making all-out efforts to reach to every calamity-hit area and help those who were trapped under the rubbles.
The delegation assured the prime minister that it would contribute more money and much needed stuff for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the affected people. The delegation also assured the prime minister that it would launch a countrywide campaign to collect relief goods and cash donations from the traders associations and chambers.
The prime minister was informed that the FPCCI was also fully active to extend its helping hand to the government for relief operation and rehabilitation of the earthquake victims. The delegation said that the FPCCI has set up three centres in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad for collection of donation money and goods for the affected people.
Later, the delegation collectively appealed to the businessmen to immediately respond to the prime minister's call for help the earthquake victims.
Meanwhile, a delegation of Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI), under the leadership of its chief, also met the prime minister and handed over a cheque of Rs 10 million.
